7 Days hike through the Draa valley

Day 1: Airport – Marrakesh
After your arrival at the Marrakech airport, we first transfer you to your hotel. There’s no particular program planned for the rest of the day (as the remaining time is dependent on your arrival). You may take a walk in the near streets and alleys of Marrakesh though – we’re always there to give tips and hints! Dinner is not included on this first day, so we recommend going to a local restaurant.
Day 2: Marrakesh – Tizi n’Tichka Mountain Pass – Ouarzazate – Agdez – Zagora – Lalla
Kebira
At 8am, we drive over the Tizi n’Tichka Mountain Pass down into the southern Ouarzazate in the Atlas Mountains to have lunch there. From there, we continue driving along Agdez and through the Draa valley, a stunning photo location. There, we’ll pass multiple Ksars (tiny villages), some inhabited, some only consisting of ruins. There will be a stop in Zagora, the “Gate of the Sahara”; our cook will buy some fresh ingredients there. Our drive continues to our camp site in the Lalla Kebira dunes. You’ll still have enough time to go on an evening walk around the oasis of Lalla Kebira. On this day, we’ll spend roughly 7 ½h driving.
Day 3 : Lalla Kebira – Beni Ali – Foum Taqqat-Oasis
During breakfast, our team loads the camels with provisions for the day so that we can hike right away down to the Draa valley. Our first stop there is Beni Ali, a beautiful and relaxing spot surrounded by palm trees. We’ll enjoy our lunch there. Afterwards, we take a rocky route along Jebel Jani towards the Oasis of Foum to spend the night there. This day’s hike will last for ca. 5h.
Day 4: Foum Taqqat-Oasis –Nesrate dunes – Ksar Ait Isfoul
After breakfast, we further explore the Draa valley, dashing forward unto our lunch stop at the Oasis of Nesrate. After a refreshing meal, we take a lovely route through many picturesque Berber villages, our destination being the camp site in Ksar Ait Isfoul. The hike will take ca. 5
½h.
Day 5: Nesrate dunes – Zaouiat Sidi Saleh – Tidiri dunes camp site
After break fast in Ksar Ait Isfoul, a scenic way leads us along farmland and a tinier sand dune towards the grave of Sidi Saleh, our lunch spot. Afterwards, we continue to our camp site in the dunes of Tidiri. We’re on the road for ca. 5h on this day.
Day 6: Tidiri dunes – Regabi Oasis and dunes – Erg Lihoudi camp
After this day’s breakfast, the whole trip’s highlight will be explored: the dunes of Tidiri. On a 6h hike through the desert we’ll also cross the Regabi dunes and those of Erg Lihoudi, where our camp destination is located.
Day 7: Ergi Lihoudi dunes – Mhamid village/Oulad Driss – Return to Marrakesh
We breakfast early in the morning while the crew loads our car. Then we take on the long drive back to Marrakesh, stopping a few times along the way for stunning views and snacks. After an 8h drive of 430km we arrive in Marrakech, thereby ending our tour.
The tour includes:
– Transfer (here/there) from and to the hotel
– An English and French speaking tour guide
– Overnights in every mentioned lodging
– Donkeys or camels to transport your luggage
– A well-versed cook preparing our meals
– All main meals during the tour (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
The tour does not include:
– Travel insurance
– Flight costs
– Drinks (water, juices, wines etc.)
Confirmation and Payment
25% deposit is necessary to confirm any program. The reservation should be done at least 4 weeks before starting program. Tours booked before that need full payment at the time of booking.
All payments via bank transfer, checks (payable in euros, MAD or US $) and credit card companies like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discovery or via PayPal are accepted.
